My computer crashed after a power outage, and I had to use the recovery CD-ROM to re-install Windows XP applications and drivers (the No Format option), and I now have no sound. The problem seems to be the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. In Properties, it says "the drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)." When I try to reinstall the driver, it says it is unable to find the appropriate software. Also, when I try to open the Volume Control (Accessories>Entertainment>VolumeControl), it says there are no active mixers available. When I go to Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel, it says there is no audio device. What can I do??

I have used Windows Update to get everything updated, and installed/updated the Intel Application Accelerator and Intel Motherboard drivers from the manufacturer's website (vprmatrix.com), but I still have no sound. From what I understand, the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio driver must come from the manufacturer, but I can't find it on their website, and they no longer provide tech support by phone (they re-direct me to Best Buy/Geek Squad, who said they can't help me).

Below is my computer info.

Hi ohmshanti, welcome to G2G.

You provide a lot of information but you did not give the computer make and model or the mother board make and model. Need this to try and help.

You did mention vprmatrix.com but that is not enough.
