Hello, I have the same problem as another user.

I have been infected with an unknown trojan. It keeps popping up with the message below everytime I use IE or even some software from the start menu or others.

"Your computer was infected by uknown trojan. It's dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost)!. Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)"

Like the other user I have tried scanning with Ad-aware, spybot and my Norton antivirus, but nothing is working.

Below is my Hijackthis stats, please help.

Thanks

Thank you for your help, am I ok now? Or is there more I should do? Perform a long scan perhaps?

You are more than welcome to run the full scan but it does take some time to complete.

Did you add these into the trusted zone of internet explorer?

O15 - Trusted Zone: my.magicjack.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: reg.talk4free.com

Let have a closer look inside there too...Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

After you post those logs,Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only
  • Follow the Instruction on the F-Secure page for proper installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I did add those two sites to the trusted zone in IE. But I may remove them. I only added them upon recommendation from the company when I was having intial issues with installing and registering there hardware and software, now that it is working right, I may remove them.

I am wondering if DSS or these other programs you guys have us run are safe to use and do not reveal private information. I have gone through the files and they look ok, but some of this software I have never heard and am wondering what it does to my system.

The F-Secure acted very strange, I ran it, went to bed, woke up about 5 hours later, figured I would check, so clicked the cleaning button and the whole thing disappeared and closed. Upon running it again, it did not find as many viruses or malware as the first time. First there there was 5 malwares, and 2 viruses, this time had 3 viruses and no malwares... This time seemed to have more skipped files than the first time also. Not sure what happend.... Any clues? Did those malwares hide from the scan now?

Also... I did download ATF Cleaner and tried to use it before I submitted my question, however opera and firefox were grayed out. I could only scan XP.

Note, I have to post two messages because the whole report won't fit in one post, seems there is a size limitation.

Here is the first log.

I can understand you reserve, you have extend a bit of trust to actually go through with posting the first log.

Believe me...I know first hand. :)

Of those files F-Secure listed,do any have meaning to you at all or are they disposable?

Hmmmm, So what information is being released? Anything I should worry about? :-)

I'm not quite understanding your last question, do you mean the viruses? The three viruses I don't know. The software I know. And I may be removing two of them. I just tried to do a full scan with F-Secure and it failed in the middle, found 52 more viruses in the meantime, these are probably in attachements in email messages that I never opened. I think the online version of F-secure may have some issues, this is the second time...

This is only for C drive, found two more viruses, I am going to delete the bittorrent now from the control panel. the other one from norton is new, not sure where it came from.

So I can go back and edit my posts and delete all the results?

My machine seems to be acting much slower than it was before the problem. Things are locking up, delayed response. I am not sure what happend. The trojan seems to be gone, but the slowness is odd.

I can not see anything obvious that is malware related that would warrant these issues, could be conflicts within the operating system between softwares, hardwares and windows.

When was the last time you defragged the machine?

Also curious,is the machine a part of a larger network?

I was going to defrag this week, but I checked it says it doesn't need it but I will do it anyway. It's been probably 3-4 months.

No, my machine is just a single machine. No network.

Can I delete all the logs above?

I am just not sure why the machine is lagging... seems to be a little better today. anyway I will defrag and see what happens

Do an early spring cleaning on the system and get rid of items no longer used, then use the Disk Cleanup tool and defrag after that.

If the machine is still having issues I have to believe it may be hardware related and you need a more experienced expert than me in this area.

Lets see how this goes and then have a look at things.
