when i connect my USB flash drive or USB bluetooth dongle, Windows searches for the driver and returns an "Invalid Data" error in the end.
I have checked the Device Manager.Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, there is a yellow exclamation mark nest to USB Mass storage device. It is also not getting updated.
Please help..

Delete it/them from Device Manager. Remove the devices then reboot.

If you had to install any drivers do so again, otherwise plug them in one at a time and see what happens.

I have tried uninstalling the device from the system and then replugging it in but I get the same "Invalid Data" error message after the search for the driver ends.My USB dongle is also not getting detected.
I brought another flash drive{Transcend) and tried to plug it in but even this one faced a similar problem...

Most Pen drives and what not require at least XP Service Pack 1, preferably Service Pack 2.
Do you have any service packs on your computer? If not, that'll be the problem.

I have Service Pack 2 installed.Earlier I did not have the problem but once I had to repair my Windows installation with the XP CD.After that USB drives stopped getting detected.

You probably have lost the SP2 when you reinstalled from the CD. Try redownloading SP2 and install it again.
