My computer keeps opening a balloon to tell me that it is infected with spyware and asking me to click in the balloon to get a program to fix the problem. When I click the balloon (which appears in the lower right-hand part of the screen), nothing happens.

I had Ad-Aware SE, and it would not update its virus definitions, and can't find anything.
I had AVGAntispyware, ant it will not open.

I downloaded SUPERAntispyware, and it will not open or run.
I downloaded CyberDefender, and it ran, and found spyware cookies, so I bought the program to remove the spyware, and removed all of the spyware that the program found, but my computer still says it is infected.

Please help!

Thanks,
Max

Hello Maximilienne

Welcome to G2Go. :)
=================
Cyber Defender used to be on the Rouge antispyware applications lis.
See this link > Here to see if you wish to keep it.
============================
* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijack This.
  • Click on I agree
  • Then Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello - thanks for the advice.

I clicked your link, downloaded saved HijackThis, and clicked run. A shortcut appeared on my desktop. I was never asked to agree to the license agreement. I can not open or run the program. I double-click on the icon, and nothing happens. I tried opening it through the "my programs" start menu, and nothing happened.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas!

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As", in FF it's "Save Link As") to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won't run as it's supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\Windows\cru629.dat
    C:\Windows\system32\cru629.dat
    C:\Windows\braviax
    C:\Windows\system32\braviax
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • OTMoveit2 will create a log of moved files in the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder. The log's name will appear as the date and time it was created, with the format mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Then::
Download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

This worked!! Thank you very much.

A note about donations: I tried to donate $35, and I do not know whether or not it worked. The system wanted me to use PayPal since I have a PayPal account, but my PayPal account was not up-to-date (the primary card had expired). I will check my account and donate if it has not yet been charged. Forcing people into PayPal is confusing and annoying!

Thanks again for all of your help!

Ok thanks for the donation I am not sure if it went through or not.
Sorry but paypal is what I use not trying to force anything.

I will need to see the logs so I can make sure that your system is clean.
Not quite done yet. :)
