I'm having an issue with IE when I go to my start menu, then use the IE shortcut in the top left corner. Rorschach112 sent me over to this deptartment for help.

When I open IE any other way, it opens fine. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello, and welcome to Geeks To Go.
I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

I had this a while back and it is the last remnant of malware

Right click and delete the icon in the start menu

Then drag and drop the file from program files\internet explorer on to the start menu

Try that

What has happened is that the shortcut path is broken.
Basicly, Internet Explorer is not where the shortcut is looking for it.
If you have an icon for I.E. on your desktop;
  • click on the start button.
  • Right click the I.E. icon.
  • select remove from this list.
  • Click on the I.E. icon on the desktop, and drag it to the start button

It is a leftover from malware that only shows when you have been cleaned up :)
