Please help - cannot boot computer

While downloading a photograph this morning, I noticed a small box in the upper left corner of the screen that said I was downloading a file (didn't stay on the screen long enough for me to read the file name or cancel the download, but I did notice that the file had a .exe extension. As soon a the graphic disappeared, my computer rebooted. It came up with the screen asking if I wanted to boot in safe mode, safe with network, safe with command, last boot or normal. None of them works. If I boot in safe mode it will come up in safe, but it immediately reboots. I am using XP home edition and have never seen anything like this before. Thanks for any help.

Probably a virus...

I suggest you go to the malware section first. :)
