Hello,

Have had several virus problems in the last week (since I switched from dial-up to DSL...not sure if that's why or not).

Had the searchmaid virus w/ the blue screen and text. Was able to get my background back and the missing tabs in display properties through several steps found online:

Downloaded and ran Ad-aware SE
Downloaded and ran CWShredder
Ran Spybot S&D
Did system scan via Trend Housecall
Installed latest windows updates

Still have the problem of the flashing yellow triangle on my taskbar. Popup window states: System Warning Critical System Error
Your PC is infected......blah, blah....Click 'ok' to get all available Anti Spyware software.

At other times the popup says 'Network Fatal error at 00FF:2348AD.

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it and unzip the program into it. It is very important you do this before anything else!

Lets see if this will find any hidden Trojan’s http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
Run ewido now.

Download the CCleaner unzip the file to install.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:

Open the ccleaner.
Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
Now click on Run Cleaner

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe<--Delete this file
c:\windows\system\BHOmod.dll<--Delete this file
Exit Explorer.Reboot as normal.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes. Let the system reboot.

Performed all of the steps. Many things were found and fixed!! Mostly by the Ewido scan. It removed msole32.exe, popuper.exe, intmonp.exe, closeall.exe, along with many tracking cookies, downloaders. hijackers, and trojan.puper.b (38 total infected files)!
