It's best to install XP (or any version of Windows for that matter) on to an empty, re-formatted disk. That removes the possibility of existing files conflicting with XP setup (though I'm not definitely claiming that's your problem, but it does happen).

thanks for that, however - kinda too late for that bit now. My problem is trying to get back to the original??? Im no computer whizz but it get sort of stuck at the installing windows part? Is there a way to step back and maybe try a different way?

hey hey hey, it just decided to unfreeze. I turned the bloody thing off for 5 minutes, theres no power switch on the back, so, I unplugged it for about 25 seconds, rebooted and it started to go again!!! Fingers crossed this works!!!
