I ran an update for XP. I thought it took a really long time downloading and installing. Said to reboot. When i did I had 66 new icons for what looked like part of these downloads. All were labeled copy (2) or (3). I sat and deleated each. Reboot. Now a bunch more labeled copy (3) and four. again reboot. I am now rebooting and getting coppy (8). How long can this go on?? :)
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Replying to the first reply - thanks guys. Sorry I can't remember names.
(1) Tallin- I think I went to your link. Removed my malware programs. Downloaded Avast. It has run. I still need to deleat an entire desktop of "copied" icons. So I 'm still working.
(2) To the system restore. I have a Building Program for our business that will not allow you to restore with losing it's data. It can be copied then put back on, but this gets really risky for it contains so much data.

Is the a place where you can go to find all the desktop icons listed. Maybe I can see how many more there is?

thanks bunches for replying

Surely you have good backups of your data if it's that important to you.

If not, why not. Do it now, before you do anything else, then proceed with fixing the problem you are having.
