I just had a computer given to me, of course it didn't work, but it has a socket 478 motherboard, and I've tried everything I know of to get it to recognize the hard drive: I think I need to flash the bios, but I've never done that before, and I can't get any clear direction from the Supermicro website. If anyone is familiar with these boards, please help me out, I don't want to give up yet, because it has a 2.8ghz pentium 4 processor that still seems to be fine. Help!!!!

Is it a eide or sata hard drive?
Is there an OS already on it?, or are you trying to format it and install 1?
Does it show up in the bios? or is that where you are looking?

Let Google be your friend on this one. Start putting information into the Search bar, not too much at a time, with the board part # and the problem. Most likely someone else has had the same problem. It's very unlikely that the BIOS needs to be flashed on that new a board, except for some update, unless someone has mis-flashed it.

Have you gotten into the BIOS set up at all?
