Hi there! I just signed up to this forum and since this would be my pfirst post, I'm hoping you guys can figure out my problem.

I have this trouble with web.exe and other adware/malware. They keep on coming back everytime I reboot anmy computer.

Here's the scenario:
When i boot up my computer, my browser automatically pops up then redirecting to Removed links I think thats the web.exe.
My Windows System folder also pops up at boot up but nothing happens and it looks like nothing is missing

Though, I've tried so many removal tools but still they cannot remove it permanently.

Tools that I've tried:

McAfee Utilies and Manual Scan

I tried to delete the web.exe @ my C: but when i connect to the internet again, it repeats the same scenario again!

Here's my Hijackthis log

Hello botb

Welcome to G2Go. :)
===============
Please download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

  • 1 - Flash Drive Disinfector
    Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from >here< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.
===========================
1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • type in notepad in the Run Box then hit ok.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
C:\v.cmd
C:\b.com
C:\WINDOWS\shell.dll.exe
C:\web.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uninstx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Recycler.exe
D:\b.com
G:\sysboot.scr
G:\m1t8ta.com
H:\3wcxx91.cmd
Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"uninstx.exe"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"shell.dll"=-
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\Windows Recycled]

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

Scan process completed.

From the result above I think those files that are infected are the one causing the problems, is there a way to delete them? Or am I mistaken?

Only 3 files are still active and we will remove them now.
Most of those that you see are already deleted and are in the sytem restore points and will be taken completley out before we fininsh.
The few other s that you see are in qoobox the Combofix quarantine.
=======================================
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbpool.dll
    D:\v.cmd
    D:\web.exe
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • OTMoveit2 will create a log of moved files in the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder. The log's name will appear as the date and time it was created, with the format mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
========================
Reboot after doing the above and let me know how things are running?
Also post the OTMoveit log and a new Hijackthis log.

wow it seems the pop-ups stopped, but here's the log just to make sure the 'active' files are truly gone

OtMoveit log:

LoadLibrary failed for C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbpool.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbpool.dll NOT unregistered.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbpool.dll moved successfully.
D:\v.cmd moved successfully.
D:\web.exe moved successfully.

Please update your Java:
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:After that
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
================
Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

  • Posted Image

Doing this unistalls Combofix and does the following:

  • Deletes ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
  • Deletes VundoFix backups, if present
  • Deletes the C:\Deckard folder, if present
  • Deletes the C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Resets the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Clean System Restore points.

Also delete\uninstall anything that we used that is left over.
============================================
After that Your log is clean. :)

To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein ->Here
