how do i set up a laptop to start up in dos mode. it has windows 2000 professional installed on it.

Hi adeere50, welcome to G2G.

That ability doesn't exist in W2K, XP or Vista like it did in W95/W98/WME.

What you can do is create a DOS bootable diskette or CD and boot it when needed.

Perhaps there are other solutions. Why do you need to do this?

we do programming on phone systems and some of the older software has to be ran through dos.

AH, okay. A couple possibilities then.
I've run 3 different versions of DOS under VMWare on my XP Pro system, along with OS/2 and Linux. Never personally used DosBox but have heard it's very good and may be enough for the job you have.
