Hi allenchen,
These are the last bits that I can see that need fixing.
Some remnent drivers from Trend Micro, and a couple of instances of a driver in a Temp folder
If this doesn't do it, and I don't really think it will, I'm all out of ideas, but I think we can rule out malware as the issue.
Try the fix below, and restart tie PC.
If the hidden file options are now available, fantastic.
Otherwise I think you need to start a thread in the Windows XP forum, Here
Run the Fix:
Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.
Cheers,
sage5

Run the Fix:
- Open the OTScanIT folder on the Desktop
- Run OTScanIt.exe.
- Copy all the text in the Code box below, and Paste it into the pane under the GREEN bar, titled Paste fix here and then click the green Run Fix button.
[Unregister Dlls] [Driver Services - Non-Microsoft Only] YY -> (tmcfw) Trend Micro Common Firewall Service [Kernel | On_Demand | Running] -> %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\TM_CFW.sys YY -> (tmpreflt) tmpreflt [Kernel | Auto | Running] -> %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\tmpreflt.sys YY -> (tmxpflt) tmxpflt [Kernel | Auto | Running] -> %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\tmxpflt.sys YY -> (vsapint) vsapint [Kernel | Auto | Running] -> %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\vsapint.sys [Files/Folders - Modified Within 60 days] NY -> rtdrvmon.exe -> C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\Local Settings\Temp\rtdrvmon.exe NY -> rtdrvmon.exe -> C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\rtdrvmon.exe
- The fix should only take a very short time.
- When the fix is done, click the OK button in the message box.
- Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix.
This file is saved in the Moved Files folder and is named in date_time format (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log format, so e.g. 04012008_082852.log) - I need you to Post the text from that file back here.
Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.
Cheers,

allenchen,
Can you ring your local PC shop & arrange for them to perform the System File Check for you.
It should only take a few minutes & they will definitely have a WinXP SP2 disc on hand.
If you explain the situation they probably won't charge you much if you take your PC to them.
