RyanH,

I see where the problem is, its my fault sorry.

Follow these instructions on flushing the DNS.

To do thisClick Start
Click Run
Type in cmd
When the box opens up, type in ipconfig /flushdns
*NOTE* There is a space between Ipconfig and /flushdns
Let me know if that works

Ok, that worked.. but still no internet. It doesn't look like the page is even attempting to load, I just automatically get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" sign. AIM is still connecting fine, though.

RyanH,

it looks like an infection most likely got sealed into your computer when you installed Service Pack 2.

Please follow the instructions here to uninstall Service Pack 2.

Once uninstalled please post a new HiJackThis log for me to look at.

Thanks

Ok, Service Pack 2 was uninstalled, and now I have the internet! However, I'm back at the stage I was before I installed Service Pack 2. The internet works, but I cannot connect using programs like AdAware to update my definitions, and I can't connect to Windows Update past the "scanning for available updates" stage. I get an error stating this portion of windows update cannot be displayed, and to try again later. I also cannot log in to my passport on hotmail. I can log into my account at yahoo, though. Here's the log:

RyanH,

Service Pack 2 seals in any spyware infections, and makes it impossible for us to remove them. The goo news is, uninstalling SP2 lets us fix those infections. Try these fixes, but do not reinstall SP2 until we are totally done =)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\windows\SYSTEM\blank.htm
O3 - Toolbar: Search - {49F2248D-1734-4B0F-A7B8-542E526EE07C} - C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\autosearch.dll

After that, Reboot.

Next post a fresh HiJackThis log for me.

Yes, I can't connect to Windows Update, and I can't log in to hotmail. On hotmail, the moment I click "log in" after submitting my information, it immediately shows a cannot be displayed page. I also can't connect to download new definitions for AdAware, I always get an 'error'.

RyanH,

Your log looks fairly clean. Run these scans again.

Please download Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware.

Follow all the instructions on this website to run a scan with both of these softwares.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

Also post a new HiJackThis log.

If the new log is clean, you can reinstall SP2, but let me see your next lig first.
