I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, aged about 2 and a bit. After giving the latter a 5 week break, I have returned from hols to find there are now these vertical pink lines where the just below the title bar. Doesnt appear to be the screen because the lines were still there when I downloaded some photos onto TV. A friend checked out the cable that links the LCD to the motherboard and that seems fine.
Any ideas? and does it matter.

Hope someone has an answer.

The attached file is a bit fuzzy. :)

Are there any characters in the pink bits?
Does it occur on every screen, whatever the software?
Have you tried a simple 'cold' re-boot?

Hi, no there are no characters, just pink lines, and it looks as if the 'ink' is running low!
Yes it shows through every application and yes it does look fuzzy, like ghosting?

Its been visible for almost 2 weeks and re-booting made no difference.

Don't understand what this means: Doesnt appear to be the screen because the lines were still there when I downloaded some photos onto TV How did you download photos to your TV?

One sure way to check this is to connect an external display to the VGA port on the back of the laptop and see if the pink is there.

Yes - not an LCD problem
No - LCD problem

Try installing the latest Chipset driver from Dell for the Inspiron 6000 (I have the same laptop by the way) here: http://support.dell..../...=WW1&osl=EN

In reply to Mikemrs and zucker, the lines are always in the Tool Bar area.
A friend connected a lead to the VGA point on the back of the laptop and the opposite end to the TV and after quite a gafflefull managed to show the photos onto the TV screen. The lines were then seen on the TV.

I didnt understand the 'Yes' No LCD problem
'No' LCD Problem
Is it or isnt it a LCD prob? then

Cheers for now. Havent downloaded the link as I am not quite sure what that is about?

If the lines are on every active window in the same place, it can't be a task bar issue.

It would probably be worth using the link below to Dell Support.
One of the options is for an online technical support chat....
