Media Center XP 2004

I have a HP pavilion zd 7000 with XP media center edition 2004. Everything seems to work fine except i cannot play a dvd on it anymore. it will play a dvd with WIN DVD, but the windows media player nor the media center will not play the dvd.
any suggestion on what i could do or if this is fixable?
autoplay does not seem to fix this issue and i have deleted and reinstalled the driver.
