video card problem

When I use google earth it appears if everything is in the dark. How do I lighten up the colour?
I didn't know if this was a computer problem or a google setup problem

Alter the brightness and/or contrast settings on your monitor.

Usually buttons on the side, bottom, or front. Older CRT monitors have wheels. After I a power outage once I thought my video card was messed up because the color setting my my monitor had restored back to default settings.
