Ok. Here we go....

My daughter's laptop is having a problem. She's running XP pro. When she starts her computer; her desktop flashes briefly...then goes to a solid color of here choice...but when it's finished booting, in Display Properties the buttons are grayed out and she cannot choose a backround.

Does that make any sense? :)

Hiya,

1> Check that the graphics display drivers are installed correctly/up to date

2> Is your daughter using a limited account (i.e. non administrator)?? If so you may have a system policy that prevents her from changing settings.

graphics display drivers are up to date....her account has administrator priviliges.

i would scan for viruses/spyware. could be a virus stopping your video. other than that i have no idea.

ive seen a few instance of this problem
at pitstop this was resolved.
before the problem was fixed .
they went through malware fixes
i suggest you do the same

could be that a group policy got changed without your knowledge...

I'll try the links Mr. Freeze...thanx...I don't know if it makes much difference or not; but I was wrong...she is running XP Home edition not xp pro.
