That program saved my computers "life." i now have what i think as full control over my computer. I can now run hijack this and/or combofix. Would u like me to run Hijack this and post a logfile as well? or continue to run malwarebytes as it said some files couldnt be removed? or run avg,?

Yo have a badly infected machine.
Combofix will help even more.
So run that and we will continue from there.

ok.. sorry for the delay. new problem. when i turn on the tower i get message "windows couldn't start; missing or corrupt file "windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll" "please reinstall a copy of the above file." how would i go about that?

i am having problems even entering the recovery console. the only thing i can get into is if i hit f10 right as it boots which takes me to the system restore... once its past that though is when i get the error message

WHen your computer boots up dont press anything until you see an option to about the Recovery Console.
It will say Windows <(Your version of XP)
then Recovery Console.

Then choose to enter the Recovery Console.

See if that works.
