I built a new computer. Have a samsung 80gig harddrive. Each time I set up windows xp home oem it setups up but when it reboots for the first time it freezes up and will not continue to load. I've used fixboot, fixmbr,chkdsk and diskpart nothing works. Fixmbr states non-valid or non-standard mbr.
Please help

you can either boot from the cd and use recovery console or hit f8 after the system posts and go into command prompt. Rund "chkdsk c: /r" with out the quotes. Please post the results here.

I've ran chkdsk and it states nothing is wrong with the volume.

where'd this disk come from? Did it have a previous os...like linux on it?

The harddisk is new 80gig Samsung.

The model number of my Samsung harddrive is SP0802N. Always I ran a check on the harddrive and it states no problems working fine.

did you get a disk utility with that one? What does the diagnostic say?

Sounds for all the world like you had installed linux on it previously

I used a disk utility to check the harddrive. But the harddisk was new and my daughter tried to install windows xp media center on it. This also didn't boot-up after restarting it only came to the logo screen and froze. So I erased the whole harddisk and tried to installed my windows xp home oem because I had just built the computer and it only install to the logo screen when it reboot. I used a disk utility and I tried fixmbr but its not seeing the harddrive it states invalid or non-standard mbr.

let's delete the partition, then let windows recreate it

www.bootdisk.com
download windows 98 boot disk

extract it to a floppy.

Reboot with the floopy

at a:\>, type
fdisk
fdisk will complain that it doesn't see any dos partitions, don't worry
choose 3 to delete partitions
delete non-dos partition

follow prompts

now restart boot with windows xp oem cd disk, let it create the partition and format it

I tried a win98 boot disk. fdisk the harddrive and then reinstalled windows xp home and let it partition hard drive still same problem. It seems to not see the harddrive.

I tried to use the win98 boot disk I downloaded but it said wrong ms-dos version. I used a windows me boot disk and fdisk the drive. It says all partitions is deleted but I only get as far as the logo screen after re-installing windows xp home. Then it locks up and won't finish loading windows
