Trojan - smit fraud.c virus

I've followed all the instructions and have almost "successfully" rid the virus from my computer with two exceptions. My icons on the desktop do not respond when they are clicked in normal mode, but they work in safe mode. Also, my wallpaper is viewable upon startup but then goes to the selected background color and my wallpaper disappears until shutdown. I haven't read anyone else who has had this problem so i have resorted to writing in to see what i could possibly be doing wrong.
