I just got rid of the Cryp-Tap 2 virus. Logs run clean. I posted this info after I was done but my 'advisor' for want of a better word suggested I post it in this forum.

I cannot get these updates to install.

I ran Cleanup and then tried to do the automatic updates, but it still will not update. I updated manually all the updates. But when the automatic update runs it still wants to install these updates, but cannot complete it.

hmmm...
did you run cleanup in demo mode or regular mode where it actually deletes files?

If you did actually delete the files, try these few suggestions-

Microsoft says I need to download the appropriate version of the Windows Update Agent but I do not know what windows based system I have. It gives 3 options:

AgentWindows, x86-based systems

Windows, x64-based systems

Windows, Itanium-based systems

All I know is I have Windows XP Home

Sorry I didn't respond sooner.
Have you installed service pack 2 for your XP yet?
Is your XP activated yet.

Without activation the updates will not work.
But that isn't the only thing that will mess up updates.

You may want to order the service pack 2 CD for future use.
And skip a lot of this update over the net stuff.
It's free, not even postage is charged.

SP-2 is included in my XP CD. It is activated and now the automatic updates started working on their own. Should I still go get the Windows Update Agent or leave well enough alone. As of right now everything is working perfectly and nothing shows up in the different scans I have run!!

If it's working I'd let it be.
You might cause more problems then solutions.

If it happens again post a topic.

Windows update is quirky most of the time.

You are welcome.
I'll let the real geeksters help you next time.
I'm just an amateur who learned through many mistakes and from this site.
After 25 years with this stuff I should know some thing. :)
