It wont allow you in Normal Mode? The program will refuse to work in Safe mode.

Alternate download:

Download OTScanit.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanit on your desktop. OTScanit can be detected as malware by your firewall and Ativirus. Chose Ignore on any warning alert.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Leave all settings as they appear as default, except for the following:
  • Under Drivers, select "Non microsoft".
  • Under Rootkit Search, select Yes
  • Under additional Scan select the following:
    • Uncheck "Non Microsoft Only".
    • Reg: Botcheck
    • Reg: File Associations
    • Reg: Security Settings
    • Reg: Software Policy Settings
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button and attach the notepad file here (Do not copy and paste in a reply, rather attach it to it).

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. CLick the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new OTScanit scan.

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.

I am also still experiencing restrictions in reguards to task manager, control panel, and system restore. I am logged in as ruben with administrator rights, but for some reason I still am not allowed to access these programs.

First

The OTScanIt fix didn't work. Perhaps due to the restriction as an Administrator's.

Copy the fix above in Notepad. Make sure that under Format in the menu, Word Wrap is deselected. The fix should look as a list, not a single line. Save it on you desktop

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose the Administrator account.
Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), navigate to your usual logon name Desktop and open OTScanit.

Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information fix in the Quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

Second approach:

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose the Administrator account.

Go to the Control Panel ->User Accounts ->Change an account. Change your usual account from Administrative to limited.

Restart the computer

Repeat the process above, this time around, however, change the account back to administrative, restart and test.

I turned computer on in safe mode and switched account ruben/administrative(account i most commonly used) to limited, but before doing so created (New)account miranda/administrative. I restarted computer and saw that only the option of administrator or miranda/administrative appeared so I selected administrator but could not find the ruben account to switch back to administrative.

I restarted computer to regular mode, this time I had the option of Miranda/Admin or Ruben/Limited, I selected Miranda account, went to control panel and switched ruben back to admin successfully, I found that I was also able to use task manager. Under Miranda I was also able to turn system restore back on. I logged off , logged on as ruben/admin and attempted to use the control panel and task manager and had the restrictions I explained earlier.

My question is and please excuse my ignorance, I don't know if it would matter. I was wondering if all the problems stem from the ruben account, if deleting that account would make much difference? Or would the system still be infected.

Hi, desireejassel :)

When you logon as a different user, all user's settings changes, including registry entries. Processing information from a previous corrupted account isn't easy. The new account can become corrupted. The issue isn't due to malware at this time, but due to registry entries under the Ruben account that resulted affected due to the infection.

Attempt to logon to the Ruben Account (Must have administrative rights) and run the OTScanIt fix once again. If successful, under the Ruben account you will be able to access the Task manager and others after a restart. If after this we still having problem with this account, then I will give you some hints on how to transfer the files from that account into the new one without affecting it. We can then delete that account.

Please post the report OTScanit fix will produce on the Ruben account.

Lets try this tool to remove BraveSentry:

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
Running SDFix:
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
