Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe before you do anything. This is just a safety
item in case you can't get on the internet afterwards. You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

Also download and install ccleaner.exe from http://www.ccleaner.com. Don't let
it clean anything yet.

Now shutdown and reboot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option.

Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix

Wait 60 seconds and repeat the scan. Did any of the above come back? IF so
leave HijackThis up and right click on the clock and select Task Manager. Then
Processes. Find Explorer.exe, right click on it and select End Process. The
desktop will disappear but HijackThis should still be there. IF you don't see
it switch to Applications in Task Manager and highlight it there then press
Switch To or just double click on it. Check and Fix Checked the above again.
Restart Explorer by Task Manager, File, New Task(Run), explorer.exe, OK.



Now run ccleaner.exe. On the first page, uncheck everything but the two lines
that have the word Temporary in them then Run Cleaner.

Start, Run, cmd, OK. This should bring up a black DOS type window. Type:

rmdir /s /q "C:\Program Files\isrvs"
del /f /q "C:\windows\system32\drivers\delprot.sys

Reboot into normal mode and run another HijackThis log and post it. Let's
see how we did.

Close but no cigar. Let's try again.

Download Pocket Killbox from

http://www.bleepingc...les/killbox.php

Unpack it and put it somewhere handy. Might as well see if it can get rid of rofl.exe before we go any further.

Run Killbox and type in (or copy and paste) c:\\rofl.exe
then press the red button. If it says it can't find it then change it to c:\rofl.exe.

If it says it can't delete it then try checking the button that turns off Explorer when it tries to remove it or try the one that say replace on reboot use dummy.

If you can't delete it then try
Start, Run, msconfig.exe, OK

Select the win.ini tab and then Disable all. OK then reboot into Safe Mode and try to kill it again.

Go back to Safe Mode and check/Fix Checked the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\tom\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/spage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\\rofl.exe

There are too many messengers running around. Let's get rid of all of them and then download the latest version when we are done if you really want to use it.

Ok that helped a lil bit, but now when i load up Windows it displays an error saying that Windows cannot find rofl.exe . Then i ran HJT and it still showed up. Also when i run HJT in Safe mode i get some different things rather then when i run it from my account. Does it make a difference that my Safe mode account and my regular account are not the same?

OK. We are getting there. I think part of the problem is you are running an older version of HijackThis. I don't believe the earlier version deleted the evil doers - it just killed their registry entries. Get the latest (1.99) at:

http://tomcoyote.org.../HijackThis.exe

and post a new log.

Some part of the drive are off limits depending on who you log in as. It can make a difference. Can you log in with the same login?

You will also see that many files will not load in safe Mode tho the registry entries will not change.

Mind if I jump in here real quick ?

There is an automate fix to remove the se.dll infection,

Would make the cleanup and removal much quicker and cleaner

Actually, what we need to do first

Is open HJT
click on Config, and then the Backup
Highlight the following

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://games.swirve.com/earth/
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

Click restore,

Close out the program

This will restore the above files,

Do not restore these

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Msn Messenger Service] msnmsg.exe
Those are related to a worm,


Next as Ron said Update HJT,

Next, Need you to go here http://www.microsoft...p1/default.mspx
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

If you don't get your windows updates you will likely be reinfected in a matter of minutes online..
