Please help. I was working on my laptop when everything froze. I just shut it off by the button but when I restarted it I got a black screen....nothing else, no white arrow nothing. I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it

do you get a memory count, drive identification or System Maker spalsh screen before the black screen?

Tapping f8 as your harddrive spins up...does a boot menu appear?

I'm no registry wizard but it's sort of like all of the instructions the computer follows.

I didn't touch the registry. I was just doing the usual stuff...checking email, looking up info, talking to family......that kind of thing when it just froze and hasn't worked since I shut it off.
