I have a big problem , i was updating my windwos xp 2 , after restarting the strange messege came ,, that windows setup can not run under safe mode , have to restart .
i have done nothing in safe mode how come ..
after f8 every option i have chosse ,, but the same ,, please give advisse what should i do ,, i even started with windows xp cd repair option ,, also changes in boot.ini , like that

Hi mnadeem.

What were you updating your XP SP2 install with? Was it a normal Windows Update or SP3?

/noexecute=optout turns off DEP but that should not prevent you from booting. But, since it's different than the entry for the other XP install, change it to /noexecute=optin, see if that changes anything.

Hi windowsxp2 with sp3 update , and i have thought thats is from microsoft ,, also /noexecute=optin changed .. nothing happend same as before
from booting..

Does your computer have an AMD processor? It looks like SP3 is wreaking havoc on some computers that do.

second i have too system installed om one partition ,, also updated with sp3 , why second is running with out problem ,,

Any one... is there no software witch can detect problem in windwos in dos mode or a log file or setup log file any thing ,, i want to know why that happends . there must be a way to handle .. i have tryed every method menssion in to repair for windowsxp ,, even try with bootable cd , no luck .
clean new installed can every one do . . but i want to have my windows back the importent data ,, witch is in my docments , and it has no excess .. any idea dirs

Ztruker is indisposed at the moment so I'll see if I can continue the help he was providing you.

Try booting to the Advanced Boot Options by tapping the F8 key as the machine starts up. Use the arrow keys to select "Last known good configuration" and press "Enter"...then choose the installation you want to start and press "Enter".

Does Windows start as it should? If it does, remove SP3 using Add or Remove Programs and reboot.

There's a possibility here that you just got a botched installation of the service pack.

What is the make and model number of your machine? Do you have your Windows XP installation cd?

The way things are at the moment, I don't think a repair install will run. It's already seeing an installation process in progress.

Is the disk you have a retail version (bought at a store separately from the computer) or an OEM version (like HP, Dell, Compaq, etc..) that came with the machine?

Again...what's the make and model number of your machine?

Take your time with the following instructions...they look more complex than they really are. The commands must be exact so type them exactly as I have them in the instructions...note that some of them contain spaces. If you run into a problem, post back for clarification.

Boot from the Windows XP installation CD...after the first several screens load, you will be given a choice to choose R for Recovery Console or Enter to install...press the R key. You will then be asked to log in. Choose the installation to be repaired by number (usually 1) and press "Enter". When you are asked for the Administrator password, leave it blank and press "Enter".

When you get to the recovery console prompt:

• Type cd \ and press "Enter".
• Type cd system~1\_resto~1 and press "Enter".
• Type dir and press "Enter".

After you press enter you will see a list of folders (like rp1, rp2) If the list of restore points has more than one page then press the "Enter" key until you reach the end of the list

• Type cd rp {number of the second to last folder in the list} and press "Enter". (Example: Type cd rp9 if rp10 is the last restore point.)
• Type cd snapshot and press "Enter".
• Type copy _registry_machine_system c:\windows\system32\config\system and press "Enter".
• Type copy _registry_machine_software c:\windows\system32\config\software and press "Enter".
• Type exit and press "Enter".

Your PC will reboot.

If you get an access denied error when doing the above, then do the following at the recovery console:

• Type cd \ and press "Enter".
• Type cd windows\system32\config and press "Enter".
• Type ren system system.bak and press "Enter".
• Type exit and press "Enter".

Your PC will reboot, go back into the Recovery Console and start from the beginning.

there is no such folder in my system .. find System Volume information .. and then _restore-(*** and so on ,, a ig no ..and then in there the file you have said to be changed but i have seen that file is a hidden in folder and can not be open ,,, what to do yet
