Laptop does boots fine then shuts off

Ive got a Compaq Presario V5000 (1.6ghz 512 ram) that i bought used and i have no idea were it was or what happened to it. I tried installing windows on it but the installer does not detect a hard drive (an 80gb), so i swapped it for another drive i know works (a 120gb) but i get the same result. Dban picks it up though...??? on top of that the computer shuts down after about 5-10 minutes for no apparent reason and restarts.

What is wrong with it?
