I've been having trouble with my system for awhile and would like someone to take a look. First, Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is really slow - opening Word and Outlook especially. Everything lately is slow as well. Here are my specs:

I'm running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3
Version 2002
Dell Dimensions 8400
Intel
Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz
2.99 Ghz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Total size: 145 GB
Free Space: 60.5 GB

I've run all the clean up/defrag programs without much luck.

Thanks!
Shari

Try to uninstall office 2007. This program use lots of computer resources. The uninstallation will not damage your saved documents. Let us know if the computer runs better. If not, we'll come with more ideas.

On post #2 by Skeptic, Process Explorer is listed. Download and run that program to get a better view of what processes are running and how much cpu time is being allocated. It could help you to decide what software to get rid of. Make sure you only have one anti virus program running as they tend to butt heads and slow things down. Also too many items in the taskbar like real player, quicktime, adobe updater all can add to the slow performance issues.

Thanks to both of you. I did the uninstall and EVERYTHING is much faster. So from here, do I just reinstall it and see how it goes?

I don't know if this helps, but here is a copy of the Process Explorer report I just ran:

Do you mean that by uninstalling Office 2007 the computer is running much faster? If yes, please reinstall and see how it behaves. If it slows down again, and if you have an older version of Office (e.g office 2003) and if you wish, install and use the older version.

I installed Office 2007 a number of times and it ended with a tremendous slow down on older computers. So much so that I advise and warn people not to install it unless they have a powerful computer.

Thanks again - yes, I meant reinstalling Office 2007. I will try to reinstall and see how it goes. As far as powerful computer, would you suggest I add RAM to my current system to make it more powerful or are there other options to do so? My kids use Word 2007 in school so I like to keep my system similar.

Thanks again for your help! I'll let you know what the reinstall does.

It's not a bad computer the one you have. Please reinstall 2007 and see what happens. Addition of another GB of RAM won't hurt. They are cheap now.
