Hello all,

having some trouble with my home network after a power outage today. i could no longer access my home network by viewing workgroup. says " mshome is not accesible, you many not have permission. the network path could not be found" blah blah. If i go to run and type in the \\"computer name" of a computer on the network I can view and access the shared folders perfectly fine. Same goes for \\ip address, works just as it should.

I decided to try changing the workgroup name under my computer, after a reboot (required for new settings) all worked well and I could see the workgroup computers on both computers.

The easy answer is just to change the workgroup name and be done with it, but I wanna figure this out. What went wrong, how do I fix it?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

edit - steps taken to solve problem:
1. firewall on laptop is norton internet security, disabled.. does not change anything
2. windows firewall disabled on desktop.. did not work
3. various services restarted, all that should be on were on and working (connection sharing, computer browser.. etc)... did not change anything
