I had Office 2003 Basic installed on my computer. It had been completely updated to SP3 and all other updates. We had decided to "upgrade" to Office 2003 Professional. First, I uninstalled Office 2003 Basic, rebooted my computer, and then installed Office 2003 Professional. Now when I go to update Office to SP3, it gives me the error "This update cannot be applied." I tried installing it from Microsoft Update, as well as downloading the executable and installing it that way. But either way I get the same error. Does anyone know a way around this?

thanks.

Solved it...

This page was extremely helpful:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498

There are 13 methods to troubleshoot the problem on the page, but I don't know if it was just one of them that did the trick or all of them, because I did all of them (or at least whatever I could) before trying to install the update again.
