I've gotten some malware on my pc and need some help to remove it, brief despription of whats going on. It says VIRUS ALERT! in all caps in my task bar next to my time and also my time has been changed to military time. My background was changed and my hard drive disappeared on me so...Also no way to get into my display settings.
I've ran combofix.exe, and some antivirus software called AVG but not everything is back to normal yet...Can someone please help or give instructions? PS I'm also new to posting on here so I don't really know the protocol

Please follow my instructions in the order they were given, if you come across something you don't understand or don't feel comfortable doing, don't hesitate to ask and I will get you sorted out
If you cannot complete a step in my instructions, please skip it and continue with the rest of my instructions and tell me in your next reply which one you were having trouble with.

Preparation

I will need you to temporarily disable Windows Defender as it can interfere with our fixes.

Windows Defender

1. Click on "Tools"
2. Click on "General Settings"
3. Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
4. Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
5. Click "Save"

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Viewpoint
PartyGaming.Net

Viewpoint is considered "foistware" at the moment but is said to be heading torwards being catagorized as Malware, because of this I would recommend its removal.

Combofix

Please go here to install the recovery console and for a guide on using combofix.
Please note: Installing the Recovery Console plays a vital part in making this process of cleaning your computer safe, please don't overlook this!

Download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Now in Notepad, go to File and in the menu that drops down click on Save As...
Save the file as CFScript.txt

Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.


After that please reboot your computer if it asks you to and post ComboFix.txt (the report the ComboFix will generate) in your next reply.

Step 2. Running ATF Cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Step 3. Running MalwareByte's Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Step 4. Running Kaspersky Online Virusscaner

Please run a free online scan with Kaspersky AntiVirus (works only with MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher).
Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button (NOT "Kaspersky File Scanner").

• In the new window that opens, click the "Accept" button to accept the user agreement, install the ActiveX control, and download the program.
• When you get the Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the "Install" button.
• When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button lights up with a green arrow, click it.
• Click on the "Scan Settings" button, and in the next window select the "extended" database, and click Ok.
• Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.

When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window, and post the text in kavscan.txt in your next reply.

Avoid downloading cracks, you have LimeWirePro Cracked and that is probably the start of all your problems as it was infected.

Please click Start then Run, in the window appears type in Notepad.exe.
Highlight the entire content of the codebox below. Copy (Control + C) and Paste (Control + V) the content into the notepad window:

Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Step 1. Updating Java

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
• Click on Continue.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Step 2. Removing ComboFix

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

Notice the space between the x and / -- That needs to be there.

Now please download OTCleanIt.

• Save it to your desktop.
• Double Click on OTCleanIt.exe, a window will appear.
• Please press the CleanUp! Button.

This will remove the tools we used during the process of cleaning your computer.

Step 3. Configuring Automatic Updates

Click the Automatic Updates tab. Choose the update option that best suits your needs, but be sure that Automatic Updates is not turned off. Windows XP will now notify you and download important updates and security patches as they become available.
Click "OK" to save your new settings and close the System Properties dialogue.

Step 4. Preventing future infection

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:

Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

There are many programs that can be used for your protection, most falling within the three main categories of anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall. Please be careful to never run more than one program of the same category in resident mode, as conflicts between the different programs can actually decrease your protection.

First things first, I appreciate all your help up to this point and appreciate the fast response....A few more questions though, 1.) My clock in my taskbar is set at army time(the virus alert part is gone which is great) but I was wondering if that can be restored to normal. 2.) My computer doesn't quite run as fast as it use to before I got the virus...anything to help with that?

For the time issue.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, click on the Customize button near the right center.

In the Customize Regional Options dialog box, click the Time tab, make sure the time format is like this h:mm:ss tt

If by some chance you don't see the format you want please do the following: To display time in a 12-hour format, type lowercase h or hh for the hour.
