How do I transfer my pictures and music from my old computer to my new one?

Does your old computer have a cd burner in it? If so you can kill 2 stones with one CD( bird). You get a backup on CD so you never lose the data plus you can use the same CD to install the data onto you new computer. You say you don't have a cd burner probably the next best thing is to buy a external hard drive and use it to transfer all data to the external drive and then transfer it again from the external drive to your new computer. Only problem there is it will cost you around $70 for smallest external drive of 80 gigs.

Then there are the flash drives. You will need at least Win 98 on the old computer to be able to run a flash drive. Heres a 4 gig flash drive for around $21. It should do you fine plus you can always use it later to transfer files to different computers if you need it. I generally have dozens of these drives laying around because they are so handy. If you have more than 4 gigs just move 4 gigs at a time to the new computer. deleting the files off the flash drive then adding new data is easy. I like using windows explore to drag and drop files to the flash drive.

The last resort is to network the two computers together. This will take some skill and learning on your part, but it can be done.

The bad part about networking is the cable will cost as much as a flash drive. SO make your choice and do what you need to do. Personally i would go the flash drive route as its the easist.
