hello .. can any one tell me why some of the buttons on my keyboard don't say what they should when pressed, as in if i want the @ sign i have to press shift 2.. why oh why

You have a very interesting question. On standard keyboards the @ is gotten by pressing shift+2 so you must have a nonstandard keyboard if it's different. If you got a driver disk for the keyboard you probably need to install the drivers.
