The Aurora popups have stopped and things seem to be running fine. I'm not getting the "file not found" error when I reboot. Booting takes forever but it's because of SpySweeper and Norton they are soooooo slow!

How much of all this software I just downloaded do I need to keep on my computer? I bought SpySweeper and Norton before I found this forum, so obviously I'm keeping those.

Seems a safe bet to keep:
Ad-Aware SE Personal
Spybot SD
SpywareBlaster
HijackThis (seems I'll want this in case I need it again)

But what about all the others?

Yes, FxWebsch is supposedly able to fix those two entries. OK, let's try it again, but this time try running that program in Safe Mode and then fix these two entries in HijackThis:

Restart and see if they come back. If they don't, then:

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

For your other questions. Neither Norton or SpySweeper was needed. All the free programs do a great job already. SpySweeper may be ok, but I don't like Norton at all because of the resources that it consumes. If you want, switch to another antivirus program like Grisoft AVG. I'm sure you'll like that one. It's free for personal use and does a much better job than Norton. I have recommended AVG to many others who used Norton and they said that AVG found and deleting trojans that Norton didn't even detect. So if you want to switch also, uninstall Norton and get AVG.

For the other programs you listed, they shouldn't interfere with your startup at all. But nevertheless, they are not needed anymore. These are:

I rebooted to Safe Mode

I ran FxWebsch

I ran Hijack This and FIXED the two files

I restarted in normal mode

Ran a scan with Hijack This and they were gone (WOO HOO!)

I turned off System restore per your instructions to do so if they were gone.

I restarted but before I turned System Restore back on I ran Hijack This again and guess what??? The little rat [bleep]s were BACK!

(I went ahead and turned system restore back on since I really feel it's best to have ON)

Any more ideas for getting rid of those two reg entries??? My computer is running fine but if they're not supposed to be there I'd rather they weren't. Thank you soooo much for all your help, you've been a lifesaver! I will send you a little something via Paypal.

OK, try this.

Turn off System Restore. Reboot into Safe Mode and run FxWebsch again. Fix those two entries in HijackThis when that FxWebsch is done. Once finished, restart and turn System Restore back on again. See if they are still there in HijackThis.

Those two definitely are not good entries, so we should remove them.

If the above still fails, we'll have to take a deeper look:

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...spy/RegSrch.vbs and choose 'Save As'. Save it somewhere. Now run that program and do a search for these files (if more than one, make sure to search and save them separately):

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'mark all'

Uncheck the following boxes only:
System/Running Process -> List Modules
System/Drivers -> NT Services
System/Drivers -> NT Kernel- and FS-drivers
Press 'OK'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post the log in this thread.
