Many thanks in advance to all of you who do this on your own free time!! My brother-in-law brought this laptop to me and said he couldn't connect to the Internet using IE6. Whenever you tried to go on it would redirect the website to one that I can't think of and didn't write down but it had something to do with "spyware". There was also a message on his desktop alerting him to possible spyware on his computer and a message to "click here" to delete it as well as a little yellow triangle that pops up in the bottom right corner that says he has an infection. In order to get to you guys I had to delete IE6 from his computer and download Firefox. I was able to run the ATF Cleaner and the SuperAntiSpyware programs but not Malwarebytes nor was I able to do a Microsoft Windows Update since IE6 isn't installed. I did run Panda Activescan but don't know what the results of that was since I did it overnight and when I woke up the computer had restarted. Following is the Hijackthis log. Please help if you can. Please download SDFix by Andy Manchesta and save it to your desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
• Choose your usual account.

• In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
• A new folder will be extracted to your %systemdrive%, typically C:\SDFix
• Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the script.
• It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
• When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt along with any other requested logs at the end of these instructions.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. DO NOT select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix (located in C:\combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.
