Hi,

Last night i downloaded a keygen off google, it instantly opened up ms dos and started writing a load of stuff, then all of a sudden my desktop screen starting flashing on so it showed all the icons and start bar and then off so all you can see is the desktop background!! It now is just permantly set as the desktop background so now if i want to open up a file or programme etc i have to go through task manager and add new task! I believe i have got rid of all the viruses as i ran kaspersky and have the softwear for it, but now maybe my drivers or something have been corrupted!!

Can anyone please help me! I can post a hijack this log if needed to but obviously as i can only use task manager its pretty tricky!

Thanks

regards

Hello euan06 and welcome to Geeks to Go!

I will be helping you clean your computer.

Please note, things such as keygens, game/software cracks, and free movies/games/software are generally the source of a lot of malware. It doesn't surprise me in the least that you were infected by one. I strongly recommend you refrain from attempting to download any software mentioned above again.

1. Deckard's System Scanner
------------------------------------------------

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Hello again euan06

1. Update Java
------------------------------------------------

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked
    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Once that has been completed, retry the Kaskpersky scan.

Hello again euan06

In the Task Manager go to the Applications tab and select "New Task. . .". Type in explorer.exe and let me know if that allows you to see your desktop and Start button.

Hello again euan06

1. ComboFix
------------------------------------------------

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

In your next post
