I have a windows XP machine running McAfee AV. I have suddenly got the red circle white cross icon in the system tray. This comes up with a box that looks like a genuine Windows XP security centre message - does a scan and then invites me to spend money. The McAfee is uptodate. Read some postings for the problem and downloaded SpyHunter which seemed to find and clean rogue XP security centre registry settings and if I run it again all is clean but the red circle keeps coming back. Have downloaded and run Hijackthis but dont know anything about it and dont understand the results.

Hello wisemj

Welcome to G2Go. :)

Pease do not attach any logs it makes them very hard to read but rather post it instead.
=====================
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
