Hello nice helpful people :)

I hope you can help me. Recently my computer started getting browser jacked from google, any search result clicked would be routed through auut.com to a number of different other pages, often odd search engines. then, unfortunately, when my girlfreind was looking something up, something claiming to be shockwave updater installed itself and now postupdate.exe keeps trying access the internet but i have a sneaky suspicion that it's a filthy nefarious thing that I need to remove!

I've ran about a billion different bits of malware remover/virus scans etc (some of which say my zonealarm is off but it tells me it's on???!!) and followed all your steps in the 'before you post thread', so have finally come to you to see if you can assist me in cleaning up my computer. these are all the logs I have got

Hello keyop

Welcome to G2Go. :)
=====================

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

You are welcome :)

First uninstall this program >ZoneAlarm Security Suite Antivirus
================================================
Please download FixWareout from here:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt).
==============================================
Please submit the following files to one of these online file scanners.
(All you have to do is copy and paste them in one at a time)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysogg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\mfont.dat

Jotti File Scan
VirusTotal File Scan

This will produce a report after the scan is complete, please copy and paste those results in your next post.

LocalFolders\Archive\hi\document.scr
Local Folders\Archive\Message could not be delivered\file.pif
The Panda scan Identified these 2 files above.
They appear to be in an e-mail archive.
Possibly in your Outlook Express saved Mail or maybe a backup.
See if they are there and delete them if you find them.

You will have to tell them to delete all the backups made by Outlook Express.
Or anything within their archived folders because of the below.

C:\Documents and Settings\Spughilda\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{DFF16927-88E6-4EAA-A097-460B7E65289B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Archive.dbx Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen 1
C:\Documents and Settings\Spughilda\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{DFF16927-88E6-4EAA-A097-460B7E65289B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Archive.dbx Infected: Email-Worm.Win32.Mydoom.l 3

After doing the above

  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

After that your log is clean. :)

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people.
You do not have to have all or any of them they are only suggestions.
This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

Spybot Search & Destroy-Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.

Spyware Blaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.

Spywareguard-Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.

IE-SPYAD- puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

Tony Klein article To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.
