PC hangs

hi! i've got this annoying problem, my computer always hangs just when i type my user and password on the welcome screen every morning on the 1st boot of my machine and when i hit the hard reset button (restart), my computer works just fine after it reboots. can anyone pls help me? i'm worried that my pc would crash with this thing going on every freaking morning. Im using windows xp professional. thanks!

are you using hibernate or standby...
give us more info on your computer specs...
have you added any new hardware or software recently...
updated windows or any other software just prior to having the problem...
have you tried system restore yet..
