ok if anyone out there can help me it would be much appreciated. I thought I was good when it came to computers, now I know I am computer retarded.

Ok. So I have a Toshiba Laptop. I just recently got a new hard drive put in. When the new hard drive was put in I didn't have a Windows XP disk to install windows so the guy who installed the hard drive who is a friend used the Toshiba restoration disk. Well the internet was working just fine. The connection has never really given me trouble.

So a few weeks later my dad finds the Windows XP disk to give to me, he believed I didn't have the full version of Windows XP on my computer so I installed it. It seemed like as soon as I did that my laptop could no longer connect to the internet.

All other wireless connected computers in my house are just fine. I moved my laptop closer to the router thing incase it wasn't giving off a strong enough signal. It didn't work.

When I opened up my network connections it says the following:

Next to Local Area Connection - Network cable unplugged
Next to Wireless Network Connection - Wireless connection unavailable
Next to Loval Area Connection 2 - Enabled

Any help would be much appreciated. I am so close to beating this laptop with a club. thanks

try disabling then enabling wireless network. Are there any authentication messages while you enable the wireless again.

Ok I tried disabling and enabling again. A little yellow menu popped up at the far right that sai wireless connectoin unavailable and then it said in a different box "connection failed!" any other suggestions?

Check to make sure your radio is enabled in the control panel. (start->control panel) There should be a shortcut to your radio there.

another suggestion is check your wireless properties. In network connections, right click on wireless connections and go to properties. Click the wireless networks tab. Are there any available networks? Make sure the configuration of the network is the same as the other computers already connected

I couldn't find any shortcut icon to the radio to see if that was enabled.

I checked the wireless connections. Under the wireless network connections there was nothing in the box and none of the buttons were clickable except for the cancel button. How can I make sure the configuration of my laptop's network is the same as the other computers?

That means your computer isnt even getting a signal from the router. Changing your configurations won't effect that.

To me it seems like a hardware problem but upgrading to win xp shouldnt effect that.

I will notify other members about this and have them look at it.

Do you have WEP security enabled on your wireless network?

I'd also check Toshiba's website and install any XP drivers for your model number laptop. XP may not contain all the drivers needed.

I have no idea if I have WEP security enabled on my computer. How can I check that?

Heya, just got a 2624 and having a few problems configuring (ie: what is the default IP it uses on LAN?) I am trying to get the linked manual above but I just get a blank page. Can someone help me get a copy of this PDF? I found it on the Siemens page but when it loads the URL below I also get a blank window

I just checked the above link to the PDF file and it still works. The file is over 1mb in size, so depending on the speed of your connection it may take a while to open.
