Hello Lovltn848,

Looking much better now.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Antivirus2008y] D:\Program Files\Antivirus2008y\antvrs.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Next

Kaspersky found some left over files that need removal.

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    D:\Documents and Settings\Lauren\Incomplete\T-996034-Adobe PhotoShop 9.0 CS2.zip
    D:\Documents and Settings\Lauren\Incomplete\T-415236618-Adobe Photoshop 7.0 FULL (+serial).zip
    D:\Documents and Settings\Lauren\Incomplete\T-996034-Adobe PhotoShop 9.0 CS2.zip
    G:\World of Warcraft\WoW-2.1.0.6692-to-2.1.0.6729-enUS-downloader.exe
    G:\World of Warcraft\WoW-2.0.10.6448-to-2.0.12.6546-enUS-downloader.exe
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

So when you come back please post the OTMoveIt2 log. Hopefully things will go smoothly this time.

So when you come back please post

Hello again Lovltn848,

Still finding the odd thing. Looking very good though, nearly there. :)

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O16 - DPF: {15589FA1-C456-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A} - http://w4s2.work4sur...e/w4sgeen10.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Now for a last check before we go to clean up.

Next

Run Deckards System Scanner again.

This time there will only be one log.

* Close all other windows before proceeding.
* Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
* When it has finished, dss will open Notepad .txt please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents in your next reply.

It's running just fine now. I was having issues with Opera so I uninstalled that and downloaded Firefox. I like it much better.

The main issue I'm having right now is that I can't install windows updates and I can't start BITS. Can you help me with that or should I make a different thread in another section of this forum?

Hello Lovltn848,

The main issue I'm having right now is that I can't install windows updates and I can't start BITS. Can you help me with that or should I make a different thread in another section of this forum?

See how it works once you have carried out the clean up below. If you still have a problem it may be something to do with a firewall or an anti-malware program you are running. I am not the person to tell you about this. Check out the Tech forums if you still have a problem.

Congratulations your machine looks clean to me. :)

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set. :)

You can delete the DSS download exe and folder now.

Then

  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Next, we need to clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
System Restore will now be active again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you are clean here are some things I think are worth having a look at:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check your Java; quite often people find there edition is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JDK) Update and save it to your desktop or the folder you usually download to.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop or Download folder.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop or Download folder double-click on the Java exe to install the newest version.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then. This helps with security and your computer will run more efficiently. I clean mine once a week. For ease of use, you might consider the following free program which works well with XP:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A great way to check that your Microsoft and Java have the latest updates is to go to Software Inspector at Secunia.

I do this weekly. Not only do they tell you which programs need updating but they give you the link to follow.

To bolster your security go to Secunia.com to ensure essential programs are up to date.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To help protect your computer in the future here are some free programs you can look at:

  • SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users to detect and remove spyware.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

If your Microsoft Update is not working automatically. Keep your operating system up to date by visiting
• Microsoft Windows Update
monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners
weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
