XP Home Laptop shuts down when restart is selected

Hi
Anyone have any idea why my laptop's restart is not working correctly? When I select turn off/ restart the laptop just switches itself off. I then have to press the power button to restart it again.
Very annoying. It's a fresh install of XP Home, so I don't really think it's a software error, but I am open to suggestions!
