I looked through the searchs to make sure I'm not posting a repeat topic but my mom wont stop yelling at me, I broke it!

I was using her boyfriends computer and the resolution was very low, 800 X 600 and I'm used to much smaller icons. I right clicked on the desktop, went to display, and there was a really long list so I just clicked the last option. I believe it was 17xx X 10xx. I've never seen a monitor on that resolution before and the monitor is my sisters from a computer she bought in 98. The screen is errored and black. When you reboot, it loads the hp logo screen and the microsoft screen, but after that you can't see anything.

The problem is how do you right click display, or even properties and go through menus, when you can't see where your mouse is going. I keep telling her it is as simple as finding someone with ME and asking them what keys to use one you right click the desktop. My sister uses 98, my mom and I both use XP and most of my friends have upgraded to XP as well. Searching the internet has me at a loss as it seems no one has had to navigate blindly. I know it's a small problem but my mom thinks that if I can't fix it, being the most computer savvy person she knows, it isn't a small problem at all. She is getting very angry at me, lol.

Any information would be helpful. Thank you for your time.

load into safe mode--if your old videocard at an install routine, go to add/remove control panel and uninstall the drivers, reboot

reinstall the drivers.

If that does not work, and the drivers did not have an uninstallation setting, post back and we will blow away a registry keyand have windows redetect it

I couldn't manage to get it to go in safe mode, I figured I could try to adjust it from there, but everyone got impatient and kept click-click-clicking away until they got it. So for the silly fix, right click the desktop, arrow down 1, right 1, and down 4 gives you (display > resolution list) 1024 x 768 if nothing was changed from original ms configuration.
