Thanks to your basic start here section I am now able to access the net and post here, but as you will see things are still not well.

I have run:

ATF Cleaner

Mbam

Avast

both again after internet access was restored and both were updated. I have updated Mozilla and Internet explorer.

On startup I receive this message Windows cannot find "C:windows\eksplorasi.exe

I am unable to run windows update. It does start IE7 and goto http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ but does nothing.

If I start IE7 by itself which has been instructed to open to www.geekstogo.com it opens http://runonce.msn.com/runonce3.aspx.

I have run HijackThis and attached my log.

Thanks already!

Please advise of any future needs.

Hello markrazz and welcome at Geekstogo,

Before running a new scan let's clean out the temporary folders.

Download ATF Cleaner to your Desktop.

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser, do this also:

  • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser, do this also:

  • Click Opera at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Close ALL Internet browsers (very important).
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Now download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.

Note: You must be logged on to the system with an account that has Administrator privileges to run this program.

  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanIt folder and double-click on OTScanIt.exe to start the program (if you are running on Vista then right-click the program and choose Run as Administrator).
  • In the Drivers section click on Non-Microsoft.
  • In the Rootkit Search section, click on Yes
  • Under Additional Scans click the checkboxes in front of the following items to select them:

    • Reg - BotCheck

      File - Additional Folder Scans

  • Do not change any other settings.
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
  • Save the file to your desktop or other location where you can find it back.

Use the Add Reply button and attach the file in your next post.

Hello markrazz,

This is a "false positive" (Avast flags something as a virus while it actually isn't)Please choose "ignore" when Avast is reporting it.

When I try to download OTScanlt.exe Avast only gives me the option to Abort Connection no Ignor. If I X The box I get the message

C:\DOCUME~\Owner~\Locals~\Temp\nia8kwdm.exe could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later or contact Server Administrator.

As this is my daughters machine I am also not allowed to search for or download it on mine using McAfee.

Then I must reboot to be allowed to click on the link and start the process over.

I am real new to Avast.

Even if I stop On-access protection I am not allowed to save.

Hello markrazz,

Hmm, are you able to completely disable/shut down Avast? If so, please disable Avast, download OTScanIt, and enable Avast again.

Again I am new to Avast the only option I can find is "Stop On-access protection" Which stops all components of Avast and then I will get a windows security alert balloon informing me "Your computer might be at risk".

Clicking the link to OTScanlt.exe will bring up the Opening OTScan.exe with the Save File dimmed

The other option I have found is to open Avast on action scanner and select each individual provider

Instant Messaging
Internet Mail
Network Shield
Outlook/Exchange
PSP Shield
Standard Shield
Web Shield

Pause just Pauses till I select continue

Terminate gives me the option to save the change and not run @ start up.

Can you also tell me if it is possible to capture screens/error messages for posting?

Hello markrazz,

I think it is best to use something else. I don't know very much about Avast because I don't use it.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

I have been able to get OTScanIt.exe after allowing cookies on my machine.

Avast warned me about unzipping on this machine but would allow.

Two files Catchme.exe & OTScanIt.exe

Would you still like a scan?

Hello Markrazz,

DSS gives only a lot op Orphaned entries. I don't think it is needed to run OTScanit.

Please enable System Restore
1 Click Start.
2 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3 On the System Restore tab, uncheck Turn off System Restore or Turn off System Restore on all drives. If you do not see the System Restore tab, you are not logged on to Windows as an Administrator.
4 Click Apply.
5 When you see the confirmation message, click Yes.
6 Click OK.

Download the HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager.
  • Unzip HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager
  • Run HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
  • Click on "File Handling".
  • Click on "Restore MS Hosts File".
  • Click OK on the Confirmation box.
  • Click on "Make Read Only?"
  • Click the X to exit the program.
  • Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

Please download DAFT and save it to your desktop:
  • Double-click the daft.exe icon.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Select everything it is displaying there
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Then rescan with DAFT again - it should say now that "All associations are OK"
  • Close DAFT if you receive that message. This means that it is fixed now.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe "C:\WINDOWS\eksplorasi.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AoK9Cuecd] C:\WINDOWS\olngeo.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Á³# L"h'þ9Óœð3rÅWC:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\olngeo.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [soft2] C:\WINDOWS\193312.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\update.exe] C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\update.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://kl.bar.need2f...earch.html?p=KL

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\At1.job

After that, Reboot.

First, we need to backup your registry:
Please go to Start > Run
Paste in the following line:regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
Click OK.
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may turn to an hour glass for a minute.
Please continue when it no longer has the hour glass.

Registry Fix

Please open up an instance of Notepad.
  • Click on:
    • Start, then
    • All Programs, then
    • Accessories, then
    • Notepad
