Torrents normally need open ports too.

we don't support torrents here so we wouldn't be making any suggestions there

Plus is your using remote admin on your home computer you will need to open up ports and use an IP redirect like no-ip.com to point to your external IP.

depends on which remote administration system you use....yes if you're using VNC or just remote desktop sure..
if you use the built in remote assistance in XP...then no you don't need to open a single port as that connection is initiated from the inside
if you use gotomypc or logmein you don't specifically have to make any port assignments either as that is also technically initiated from the inside...and you don't necessarily need to direct that to your external ip either

Trust me Static at home is way better. Beside I live in Florida and we get a lot of rain power outages that knock the router offline forcing a reboot, when it does come back up no need to worry about port forwarding and settings

common misconception about DHCP is that you always get a new IP address when your lease is up....incorrect if you've got a DHCP pool of 10 ips and you're only EVER using 4 of them...then when your PC sends it's DHCP renewal request to the DHCP server the server will just let it keep the IP that it's already got...so the ip should (in theory...there are extenuating factors) never actually change unless you've got more computers than you've got leases
