External Hard Drive trouble

Having issues with an external drive.When I plug it into my vaio(vista os) I can see it in device manager->disk drives & usb controllers.With my dell (xp os) I can see it under usb controllers only.
I put another drive into the casing and that worked,so casing ok.

I put it into the second slot in my dell.Under bios it could tell me it was a 500Gb drive and would not show up under my computer,Setting were correct.Is it corrupt and if so what can i do.
And help would be appreciated in what to do.
