Looking better... :)

Run HijackThis. Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

O4 - Startup: lsass.lnk = ?

Then close all windows except HijackThis and press Fix checked.

Using Windows Explorer navigate to the following file and delete it.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\lsass.lnk

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 7.
  • Go to the Sun Java Website
  • Click on the download button next to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7
  • Check the circle next to I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.
  • Click on the link Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk.
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

Post a new HJT log and let me know how it's running now.

Hi,

What program is producing the Autoprotect Pop-Up? Is it coming from Symantec?

Let's get a closer look.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Yes it is Symantec that is reporting the risk and it's a file that was downloaded with Limewire. The file should be deleted.

C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\My Documents\LimeWire Downloads\Kanye West - Graduation - Stronger.mp3

Please note that as long as you're using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur. You may continue to use P2P sharing at your own risk; however, please keep in mind that this practice may be the source of malware infestation. I would recommend uninstalling any of your P2P applications and refraining from this practice.
