Hi there and welcome to GeeksToGo! I am working on a response to your log now. While I do that, I recommend that you uninstall MessengerPlus. It is most likely the reason you became infected with these problems!
Hang in there, I'll have this worked up for you soon! :tazz:

Thanks for getting me that startup! I just wanted to stop in for a minute and let you know that I won't be able to finish up your fix until later this afternoon. I have to run a few errands that can't wait. Hang in there, and I'll be back in a few hours!

Thanks for the Startup report.

First:
Launch Notepad.
Copy/paste the text in the box below into a new text file.
Save it as fixme.reg on your Desktop

CODE

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Second:
Download Killbox from here: http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip

Reboot in Safe Mode

This will take a little bit to do so keep track and dont miss any files.

Open Killbox, click the option 'Delete on Reboot'

Enter (using Copy and Paste) the names of the files to delete in the box 'Full Path of File to Delete'

Here is the first entry:

Click the red X, Say yes to the message box that comes up, then say No to the next box asking you to reboot.

This is important, coz if you reboot before you are finished entering all the files, you will have to start over again.

Do the same for this entire list (You have already done the first one)

C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe

Ok so a recap of this

1.)Copy a path & file (whole line) from the list here, and paste it to the first line(of killbox)
2.)Click the Red X for each file you enter
3.)Say "Yes" to first message, and "No" to reboot now(next message)
4.)Repeat for the entire list

5.)Reboot.

Post a fresh HJT log for review in this thread. There will be more to do to finish you up!

Looks like everything is functioning ok. Not getting the flashing exclamation mark in the taskbar anymore and random popup windows aren't appearing.

Can I reinstall messenger plus now?

I highly recommend you do not re-install Messenger Plus, or you will be back here looking for help within a matter of hours. That program is what infected you in the first place, and will continue to infect you if you use it again.

Congratulations! :tazz: Your log is clean! ;)
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
