I've seen this same problem numerous times on these forums, but I would like direct help just in case it is a different problem.
Right. Yesterday I installed a program (I'm not sure what program it was, might have been Cubase) which I think infected my computer with something, when I launched the .exe it paused for a while, then the cmd menu appeared, and disappeared, at this time I thought something suspicious was going on because it normally doesn't take this long to open up the setup menu. I noticed later on that there was something wasn't right with my computer, I opened up control panel and clicked on Add or Remove Programs and it came up with this message
rundll32.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application. (Pops up twice)
I then tried opening everything else in the control panel, and this same message pops up every time (Twice again), other than when I clicked on Administrative Tools, Fonts, Network Connections, Scheduled Tasks.
I rebooted the computer and logged in, then the same messages appeared again, but the headers were different, I can't quite remember what they said, but it was the same body. Explorer didn't display, and it was just my background displayed, so I just went into the Task Manager and ran a new 'explorer.exe', then the messages appeared again. It also is effecting my internet with pop-ups which are getting quite annoying.
Please if anyone can help me, respond. Because I do not want to reformat the computer.
*Note* The computer I'm using was bought at an auction, so I don't have the XP disc, although it is a genuine copy.
*Edit* I also scanned it with McAfee and it found nothing
