Installed a family feud game several weeks ago and began getting ntoskrnl.exe error messages at boot up. I downloaded a Vista repair image and burned it to a cd. The repair works but I still get the ntoskrnl.exe message. Most recently I got this screen when attempting to install SP1 on a Windows Vista Home Basic OS.

Please read this article.

http://www.computerh...es/ch000646.htm

It says XP but it also applys to vista.

First I would boot to recovery console and run a chkdsk /r
This has maybe a 50% chance to fix it, but it is the least invasive and easiest fix, so that's why I would start with that one.

If that doesn't work, then from RC again, run bootcfg /rebuild
which will rebuild the boot.ini file.

If the above does not fix the problem then you may have to do a repair install for vista.

I tried what was proposed in the first article without any success. I will try to run the bootcfg /rebuild.
